Transcend JetFlash 790 is a USB flash drive with USB 3.1 Gen 1 revision. It's starting from 16 GB storage. However, you can get up to 512 GB of storage from this model. There are 156,32,64,128,256,512 GB editions of this model. But today we are focusing on the 64 GB one. I got this from Startech, Bangladesh for BDT 900 (8.81 USD). Now let's see how this performs in our tests.

Product review (Transcend JetFlash 790):
N.B: All files are transferred from host computers to the flash drive.
Transcend JetFlash 790 64 GB |
Transfer speed: Transcend flash drives got a pretty decent average transfer speed. Well, Transcend's official website claims that the transfer speed may vary depending on the host system's configuration. And turns out, they weren't wrong. I tested the flash drive on three different configurations. Well, the higher end system powered with a 9th Gen Intel Core i7 (32 GB RAM, GTX 750Ti, 240 GB SSD, 2TB HDD, OS Windows 10), gives us a average transfer speed of 15.77 MB/s. Which is a decent transfer speed. But as the system configuration gets lower, we get some performance decrease.
Update: In USB 3 ports, the speed jumps to 20 to 30 MB/s. Not much, but useful for large files.
This system got 4 GB RAM,, Intel Pentium 2020, Intel HD graphics, OS Windows 8.1 ghost spectre modified edition built 9600. Now the transfer speed is around 11 MB/s. Well, it affects the performance about 30 to 35%. That's a noticeable difference. But I think it's still good. Unless you are transferring really huge files over 18 to 20 GB. And about the third and the last test was done on my own system. Well, It's not a powerful PC.A core 2 Dou E8400, Intel GMA X4500 iGPU, 4 GB DDR3, Windows 8.1 Built 9600. But, it performed slightly better than the previous test. It averages out almost 12 MB/s. I don't know how but the test indicates this weird result.
Usability:
The usability is good. But there is a catch. I told you that the capless design impressed me. But when I try to plug the drive in, the port slides itself (I mean the port slides towards the drive when I push it to an empty USB port). This problem annoys me. I have to hold the blue slider while I try to insert it in a USB port. Besides this issue, anything else doesn't bother me. I'm pretty much comfortable to keep it in my pocket.
Built quality:
The overall built quality is impressive. It's a plastic shell. But it's good and you can feel the quality while holding it.
Others:
It's got a proprietary software named Transcend Elite. Which is great for managing & backing up files from a Transcend storage device. This software supports flash drives like JetFlash 790.
The good:
Well-built: Feels good while holding it in my hands. Because it's built with high-quality materials.
Decent transfer speed: I tested this flash drive with a few systems. And the transfer speed is quite good.
The bad:
The slider: The slider got no locking mechanism. For that you may face some issues while using it.
Speed drop: I don't know if it's my systems problem or the flash drive. But sometimes the flash drive transfer speed goes noticeably down for a few seconds. Drops down to 0 MB/s! And gets stuck there for some time. But for a few seconds. But it's not completely unreliable. It transfers files pretty fast.
Final thoughts and ION rating:
So, should you buy this flash drive? I'll say yes. It's appealing, fast and got a massive five-year warranty. And a good proprietary software is available for this flash drive.
The ION Rating is 7.5 out of 10 (Recommended to buy, it's a good flash drive.)
